Woodmist Saffron
Rocheby Old Smokey x Abbeystead Wren in Woodmist
19th January 2007 - 4th September 2023
Happy hunting my best girl.
“And I thought we would be together
Go on and on just like that, forever”
Saffy had good conformation but as a youngster she lacked the substance required for the modern show ring.
She matured later than many and went on to win at the highest level, staying fit and looking good until she was a very old girl.
What she lacked in size for the show ring, she more than made up for in her athleticism and temperament, being biddable, clever and sensible yet still driven.

Saffy working
As she had shown an aptitude for training, I decided to have a go at the Show Gundog Working Certificate which she passed.
I then continued taking her to classes and started entering working tests. I was very naive with my show bred girl and she picked up a lot of " 0 " scores but we were both gaining experience and learning along the way.
In 2010 at Midland Golden Retriever Club, in a very good entry of 20 other working bred Labradors, my show bred girl absolutely thrilled me by winning a Novice Dog/Novice Handler working test.
When out working, Saffy had courage, drive and was a real pleasure to watch, she carried herself beautifully and was accurate and stylish. She was my reliable game finder. Retired at 12 (to prevent her hurting herself) I really do miss taking her out.
Thank you, dear Saffy, for being so brilliant and for teaching me so much.
